SIL vs SDA: Which NDIS Housing Support Is Right for You?

The simplest way to tell them apart

SIL is the support. SDA is the space. One funds the people who help you; the other funds an accessible, purpose-built home. Many participants have both, but plenty have only one.

Keeping that distinction in mind makes plan meetings far less confusing.

When SIL is usually the answer

If your main need is help with daily living, personal care, routines or skill-building, SIL is likely the relevant support. It suits people who can live in a standard home but need consistent, person-centred support to do so.

When SDA comes into the picture

SDA is for participants whose needs call for specific building features, such as accessible bathrooms, hoists, reinforced walls or assistive technology. It has stricter eligibility and is written into your plan when there is clear evidence of need.
