Supported Independent Living
Help with daily tasks in a shared or individual home: cooking, personal care, routines and building skills, with support workers on site as much or as little as your plan provides.
Specialist Disability Accommodation

What SIL housing actually includes.
SIL accommodation is two things, paid for separately: the support in the home and the home itself. The support, meaning the workers who help with personal care, meal preparation, household tasks and daily living, is funded by the Supported Independent Living budget in your NDIS plan. The home works like any other tenancy. You pay rent or board and your share of food and utilities, usually from the Disability Support Pension, with Commonwealth Rent Assistance helping with the rent.
The level of support comes from your plan, not from the house. It can range from a few shared support hours a day up to 24/7 support with an active overnight worker. Before a tour we look at what your plan funds, so the home you visit is one whose roster can actually match it.
SDA is different again. Specialist Disability Accommodation funding pays towards the building itself, and only for people whose plan includes it. The homes in Narellan, Campbelltown, Granville and Blacktown are enrolled SDA dwellings, and the other homes are SIL. Most people living in SIL do not have SDA funding and do not need it.
Questions to ask any supported independent living provider.
You are choosing the people more than the property. These are the questions we would ask in your position, and we are glad to answer every one of them about our own homes.
- Who employs the support workers, and will I meet them before I move in?
- How stable is the roster, and who covers when a regular worker is away?
- Is overnight support active, with a worker awake, or passive, with a worker asleep on site? Which one does my plan fund?
- How are housemates matched, and do I get to meet them first?
- What happens if my support needs change after I move in?
- What exactly is included in the rent or board, and what costs extra?
Our answer to the first one is simple: our support workers are AllCare staff, matched to each home, and you meet them before anything starts. Ask to visit at an ordinary time of day as well, so you see the home as it really runs.

Frequently asked questions.
Is this covered by the NDIS?
The support is, if it is in your plan. SIL funding in your NDIS plan covers the support workers and daily assistance in the home. Like anyone else, residents pay their own rent or board and everyday living costs such as food and utilities, usually from the Disability Support Pension, with Commonwealth Rent Assistance helping with the rent portion. SDA works differently: SDA payments depend on your plan and are only available if SDA eligibility is included in it. We will go through your plan with you and give you a clear, honest answer about what is covered before anything starts.
Can I visit a home before deciding?
Absolutely. We encourage it. Tour as many homes as you like and bring family, a support coordinator or anyone who helps you decide.
Can family and friends visit whenever they like?
Yes. It is your home, and the people you love are always welcome in it.
What areas do you have homes in?
Sydney South, South West Sydney, Western Sydney, the Macarthur region and Goulburn, and we are growing. If your area is not listed, register your interest and we will contact you when a home opens near you.
