Built accessible, not made accessible
There is a real difference between a house with ramps added and a home designed accessible from day one. Our Campbelltown SDA home is the second kind: a modern residence built to the High Physical Support design standard, with accessibility running through every room rather than bolted on where it fits.
The features that matter, one by one
Structural provision for ceiling hoists means hoisting can be installed where the person needs it, not where the ceiling happens to cope. Emergency backup power keeps essential equipment running through an outage. The home is assistive technology ready, so doors, blinds and communication systems can be automated around the person's abilities.
Bathrooms are accessible with hobless showers, and the household and kitchen features are usable from a seated position, which means cooking, washing up and daily routines stay something you do, not something done for you. Outside, a private courtyard gives fresh air and quiet without leaving home.
The location
The home is close to Campbelltown's CBD and near public transport, which keeps shopping, appointments and community activities within easy reach. Campbelltown is also the major service hub for the Macarthur region, so hospitals, specialists and programs are nearby rather than a long trip away.
Is this the right fit?
SDA at this design standard is for participants with significant physical support needs, funded through the NDIS where evidence supports it. If you are comparing options, our Campbelltown home and our Narellan home are built to the same standard in different settings, and SIL vs SDA explains the funding side in plain English.
