A library, gym, courts, skate park and accessible community centre on one precinct, minutes from home. Our Carnes Hill SIL home up close.

The precinct that sells the suburb
Carnes Hill's standout feature is the Community and Recreation Precinct on the corner of Kurrajong and Cowpasture Roads: a library, an indoor recreation centre with a gym and courts, outdoor tennis and basketball, a skate park, a playground and a public plaza, all on one 70,000 square metre site. The community centre there is fully accessible.
For participants whose goals include fitness, social connection or just a fuller week, having all of that a few minutes from home removes the biggest barrier, which is usually the travel.
Everyday practicalities
Carnes Hill Marketplace next to the precinct covers supermarkets and everyday shopping. Liverpool Hospital is a short drive. There is no railway station in the suburb: Edmondson Park and Casula are nearest, and local buses connect toward Liverpool, so getting around usually means a bus or a support worker driving.
Inside the home
Our Carnes Hill SIL home is a three-bedroom, two-bathroom home on a quiet street with tailored on-site support. Three bedrooms keeps the household small, which suits people who do better in a calmer home with fewer housemates.

Frequently asked questions
Can support workers take housemates to the recreation precinct?
Yes. Building it into the weekly routine is exactly the kind of thing we plan together, whether that is the gym, the library or courts time.
How many people live in the home?
It is a three-bedroom home, so the household stays small. Housemate matching is done carefully and you meet everyone before deciding.
